I'm Edward DeFord, affectionately known as "The Duke of Uke" by my friends, fans and fellow musicians. I travel around playing my ukulele and singing for whoever will listen. For me, sharing music on my ukulele and singing is a transcendent joy. It gives me the opportunity to meet a wide variety of interesting people and to make a special connection with them.
There is nothing quite like the power created between a performer and his or her audience, that shared experience of music and culture that creates community and uplifts the spirit of every individual. That is what the experience of singing and playing music is for me. It's my way of participating in the creation of life-affirming energy and bringing people together with a positive group consciousness. And it's a hell of a lot of fun too.
My music, like my self, tends to defy pigeonholing. I do some Hawaiian music in my act but not as much as you might expect. I also like Jug-Band tunes and Tin Pan Alley standards, those old songs that pluck at your heart strings. My influences range from roots rock and blues to jazz, country, reggae and beyond, one can never be quite certain from where I will draw my next inspiration. All I can say for sure is that each song will be delivered with that unique "Duke of Uke" flavor.
Enjoy my web site; I hope you find some things here that make you happy. I've included some photos and MP3s to give you an idea of what I am all about, and links to other musician's sites as well as news about upcoming shows and events. There is even a page with information on how you can have the Duke for your event or party.
